What is Tarceva 150mg Erlotinib?

Tarceva contains the active ingredient erlotinib, which is used to treat cancer by interfering with the growth of cancer cells and slowing their spread in the body.

It is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer or pancreatic cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastasized).

What is the mechanism of action of the active ingredient Erlotinib?

Active ingredient erlotinib strongly inhibits the intracellular phosphorylation of HER1/EGFR. HER1/EGFR is expressed on the surface of normal cells and cancer cells. In nonclinical models, inhibition of EGFR phosphotyrosine results in inhibition and/or cell death.

What is Tarceva used for?

  • Tarceva is indicated for the treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR activating mutations.
  • Indicated for the maintenance treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have failed to respond to stable first-line chemotherapy after 4 cycles of first-line chemotherapy. one uses a platinum derivative.
  • It is indicated for the treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer after failure of at least one prior chemotherapy regimen.
  • Gemcitabine in combination with gemcitabine is indicated for the first-line treatment of patients with locally advanced, unresectable, or metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Who should not take Tarceva?

Tarceva is contraindicated in patients with severe hypersensitivity to erlotinib or to any of the excipients.

Dosage and how to use Tarceva drug?

Dosage of Tarceva 150mg Erlotinib

Treatment with Tarceva should be supervised by a physician experienced in the use of anticancer therapies.

Dosage for adults

Non-small cell lung cancer patient

The recommended daily dose of Tarceva is 150 mg, taken at least one hour before or two hours after eating food.

Pancreatic cancer patient

The recommended daily dose of Tarceva is 100 mg orally at least one hour before or two hours after food, in combination with gemcitabine (see summary of gemcitabine product characteristics for pancreatic cancer indications). In patients without rash within the first 4–8 weeks of treatment, treatment with Tarceva should be re-evaluated.

When dose adjustment is required, the dose should be reduced in increments of 50 mg.

Tarceva is available in strengths of 25mg, 100mg and 150mg.

Dosage for children

The safety and efficacy of erlotinib in approved indications have not been established in patients younger than 18 years of age. The use of Tarceva in pediatric patients is not recommended.

Other dosage

People with liver failure

Erlotinib is eliminated by hepatic metabolism and biliary excretion. Although erlotinib exposure is similar in patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score 7-9) compared with patients with adequate liver function, caution should be exercised when Tarceva is administered to patients with hepatic impairment.

Dosage reduction or discontinuation of Tarceva should be considered if serious adverse reactions occur. The safety and efficacy of erlotinib have not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment (AST/SGOT and ALT/SGPT > 5 x ULN). The use of Tarceva is not recommended in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction.

People with kidney failure

The safety and efficacy of erlotinib have not been studied in patients with renal impairment (serum creatinine >1.5 times upper limit of normal).

Based on pharmacokinetic data, no dose adjustment is required in patients with mild or moderate renal impairment. The use of Tarceva is not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment.
