What is Casodex?
Casodex contains active ingredient Bicalutamide 50mL is an anti-androgen (male hormone). The drug works in the body by blocking the action of androgens (male hormones).

Indications for drug treatment
Treatment for end-stage prostate cancer is combined with luteinizing-hormone-releasing hormone analog therapy (LHRH) or surgical castration.
Contraindications to the use of drugs
Do not take the drug for women and children.
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
Contraindicated concomitant use of Casodex with terfenadine, astemizol or cisapride.
Dosage of the drug Casodex 50mg
Dosage for adults
Men including the elderly: 1 tablet (50 mg) once a day. Treatment should be initiated at least 3 days before starting treatment with substances similar to LHRH or at the same time as testicular removal.
Dosage Adjustment in Renal Failure: No dose adjustment is required in patients with renal impairment
Dosage adjustment in hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment. In patients with severe hepatic impairment (n = 4), although there was a 76% increase in the half-life (5.9 and 10.4 days for normal and impaired patients, respectively) of Active enantiomer of bicalutamide without dose adjustment is required.

How to use the drug Casodex
Take Casodex exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not increase or decrease the dosage by yourself without prescription from your treating doctor.
The drug is usually taken 1 time per day in the morning or evening. You can take the drug with or without food. Try to take the medicine at the same time every day.
Treatment with the drugs Casodex and LHRH is usually started at the same time. Follow your doctor's instructions.

What to do in case of overdose?
Call 911 or go to the nearest local Medical Station right away.

What should i avoid while taking Casodex?
Casodex may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive a car or do anything that requires you to stay awake.
Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Bicalutamide can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.
Bicalutamide can pass into body fluids (urine, feces, vomit). Caregivers should wear rubber gloves when cleaning up a patient's body fluids, handling contaminated waste or washing or changing diapers. Wash hands before and after removing gloves. Wash soiled clothing and towels separately from other laundry.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Casodex: hives; shortness of breath; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
Breast pain or swelling;
Blood in your urine;
Fever, chills;
Sudden chest pain or discomfort, wheezing, dry cough, feeling short of breath;
low red blood cells (anemia) - pale skin, feeling light- headed or short of breath, fast heart rate, trouble concentrating;
Liver problems - nausea, upper stomach pain, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
High blood sugar - excessive thirst, increased urination, hunger, dry mouth, fruit smelly breath, drowsiness, dry skin, blurred vision, weight loss

What is prostate cancer hormone therapy?
Male hormones also known as testosterone. In healthy people, this hormone helps stimulate prostate cells to grow. In the event that this gland has cancer, testosterone also "helps" the tumor to enlarge. The goal of hormone therapy is to reduce the stimulation of cancer cells caused by testosterone.
Testosterone is produced by the testes in response to another hormone, LH-RH (gonadotropin hormone). Research is being done to determine if hormone therapy increases the effectiveness of radiation therapy. Usually hormone therapy is used in patients with advanced prostate cancer or metastasis.
