What is Femara medicine?
The drug Femara (letrozole) lowers estrogen levels in postmenopausal women, slowing the growth of certain types of breast tumors that require estrogen to multiply in the body.
The drug is used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The drug is usually indicated for women who have been taking tamoxifen (Nolvadex, Soltamox) for 5 years.
Indications for treatment
Postmenopausal women: Adjuvant treatment for early stage breast cancer, hormone receptor-positive.
Prolonged adjuvant therapy for early stage breast cancer has received standard adjuvant therapy with tamoxifen.
First-line therapy for hormone-dependent advanced breast cancer.
Advanced breast cancer has been treated with anti-estrogen drugs.
Breast-conserving pre-operative treatment for localized breast cancer with hormone receptor-positive.
The dosage of the drug Femara
Usual Adult Dosage for Breast Cancer:
For use as first-line treatment of menopausal women with receptor-active or advanced breast cancer hormone at the site of the disease or unknown metastasis of hormone receptors.
Femara is also indicated for the treatment of advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women with progression of the disease following antiestrogen therapy: 2.5 mg orally 1 tablet / day without regard to meals.
In patients with advanced disease, Letrozole treatment should continue until tumor progression is evident.
Usual Adult Dosage for Breast Cancer - Adjuvant:
For use as an adjuvant treatment of early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have received 5 years of adjuvant tamoxifen therapy: 2.5 mg orally 1 tablet / day for which not related to the meal.
The optimal duration of the letrozole drug therapy is not known. The drug should be discontinued if there is a recurrence of the tumor.
How to use the drug

What happens if I miss a dose?
