What is Revolade?

The drug Revolade is indicated for chronic immunological (idiopathic) purpura thrombocytopenia (ITP) patients aged 1 year and older who are well qualified for other treatment (eg corticosteroids, immunoglobulins).

The drug is indicated in adult patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) for the treatment of thrombocytopenia, where the degree of thrombocytopenia is the main factor preventing the initiation or limiting the ability to maintain Optimal interferon-based therapy.

The drug Revolade is indicated in adult patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) who were either refractory or pre-pretreated for immunosuppressive therapy or heavily pretreated and unsuitable for implantation. hematopoietic stem cells.

Usage & Dosage of Revolade

The recommended adult starting dose of eltrombopag for the treatment of ITP is 50 mg orally once daily. Depending on your platelet count after 2 to 3 weeks, your doctor may increase your dose to a maximum of 75 mg per day.

The starting dose for people with chronic hepatitis C is 25 mg orally once daily. This dose may be increased every 2 weeks to a maximum of 100 mg once daily.

The starting dose of Revolade for people with SAA is 50 mg orally once daily. This dose may be increased every 2 weeks to a maximum of 150 mg once daily.

Eltrombopag should be taken at least 4 hours before or after antacids, dairy products, mineral supplements or any other product containing aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium, selenium and zinc. The drug can be taken with food containing little or no calcium.

There are many things that can affect how much medicine a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a different dose from the ones listed here,  do not change the way in which you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

It is important that this drug be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor. If it is necessary to prevent taking eltrombopag, your doctor should do regular blood tests to make sure your platelet count is not falling too low.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you don't know what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Store Revolade at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (eg down the sink or in the toilet) or in household trash. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines that are no longer needed or have expired.

Medication is contraindicated

  • Patients who are allergic to eltrombopag or any of the ingredients of Revolade.
  • Severely impaired liver function.

Side effects of the drug Revolade

Some undesirable effects can occur:

  • Stomachache;
  • Not good at eating;
  • Constipation;
  • Diarrhea;
  • Dizziness;
  • Dry eyes;
  • Dry mouth;
  • Tired;
  • Flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, sudden lack of energy);
  • Headache;
  • Nausea, vomiting;
  • Difficulty sleeping.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

  • Muscle or bone pain;
  • Chest muscle pain;
  • Muscle and tendon pain;
  • Anemia;
  • Depression;
  • Liver problems;
  • Skin rash;
  • Swelling of hands, ankles, or feet;
  • Urinary tract infections;
  • Vision changes or blurred vision.

Some people may experience side effects other than those listed. Check with your doctor if you notice any symptoms that worry you while you are taking this medicine.

Other precautions or warnings for drug Revolade

Changes in blood cells: Revolade stimulates the cells in the bone marrow to produce platelets as well as other blood cells. Sometimes this causes changes in the blood cells or bone marrow that can increase the risk of bone marrow cell disorders and blood cancer.

Blood clots:  This medication may increase your risk of forming a blood clot, causing a decrease in blood flow to your organs or extremities.

Cataracts: Revolade pills have been reported to cause cataracts or worsen them for people who had had the onset of cataracts prior to taking the drug. If you notice changes in your vision while taking this medicine, talk to your doctor.

Hepatitis C infection:  People with chronic hepatitis C infection may have an increased risk of liver failure and death while being treated with interferon and ribavirin. This is more likely to occur when taking eltrombopag as well.

Pregnancy:  This drug should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while taking this medicine, contact your doctor immediately.

Breast- feeding: It is not known if Revolade drug passes into breast milk. If you are a nursing mother and are taking this medicine, it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breastfeeding.

Children:  The safety and effectiveness of using this drug have not been established for children.

Drug interactions other than the drug Revolade

There may be an interaction between the active ingredient eltrombopag and any of the following:

  • aluminum hydroxide
  • bosentan
  • calcium supplements (for example, calcium carbonate, calcium citrate)
  • deferiprone
  • ezetimibe
  • fexofenadine
  • irinotecan
  • iron (eg, color fumarate, color gluconate, iron sulfate)
  • lopinavir
  • magnesium (eg, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium oxide)
  • methotrexate
  • multivitamins
  • strategy
  • olmesartan
  • repaglinide
  • rifampin
  • ritonavir
  • selenium
  • simeprevir
  • "Statin" anticholesterol drugs (eg, atorvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin)
  • sucralfate
  • valsartan
  • zinc
