What is Pradaxa medicine?
Pradaxa is a prescription drug that contains an active ingredient that thin the blood to lower the risk of blood clots forming in the body.
Besides, the drug is also used to:
Reduces the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with a medical condition called atrial fibrillation.
With atrial fibrillation, part of the heart doesn't beat as well as it should. This can lead to blood clots forming and increase your risk of a stroke.
Treat a blood clot in the veins of your legs (deep vein thrombosis) or your lungs (pulmonary embolism) and reduce your risk of having these conditions again.
The drug Pradaxa is not intended for use by people with artificial (fake) heart valves. It is not known if the drug is safe and effective for use in children.

Indications for the treatment of the drug
Primary prevention of venous thromboembolic events in adult patients who have undergone full hip replacement surgery or full knee replacement surgery.
Prevention of strokes and systemic embolism in adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), with one or more risk factors, such as previous stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA ); age 75 years old; heart failure (Class NYHA ≥ II); diabetes; hypertension.
Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and prevention of recurrent DVT and PE in adults.
Hypersensitivity to the drug ingredients.
Severe renal failure.
Signs of bleeding, atopic bleeding or decreased blood clotting due to drug use or spontaneous.
Organ damage has a high risk of bleeding, including hemorrhagic stroke within 6 months.
Systemic ketokonazole period. Patients with mechanical artificial heart valves.
Dosage of the drug Pradaxa 110mg
Adults
Prevention of venous thromboembolism (TTHKTM) after knee replacement surgery: It should be taken within 1-4 hours after surgery, 1 tablet of 110 mg, continuing 2 tablets x 1 time / day x 10 days.
OA room after hip replacement surgery: It should be taken within 1-4 hours after surgery, 1 tablet 110 mg, continuing 2 tablets x 1 time / day x 28-35 days.
If hemostasis is not warranted: initiation of treatment should be delayed.
If the drug is not taken on the day of surgery: it is recommended to start then 2 tablets of 110 mg, 1 time per day.
Prevention of stroke, systemic embolism and reduction of death due to vascular causes in patients with atrial fibrillation not caused by heart valve disease: 150 mg twice daily, treatment should last a lifetime.
Reduce dose
Reduce dose to 150 mg per day in patients with moderate renal impairment.
Reduce dose to 110 mg twice daily in patients at increased risk of bleeding. Children <18 years old: Not recommended.

How to use the drug Pradaxa 110mg
Use Pradaxa as directed by your doctor. Do not increase or decrease the dose on your own without asking your doctor.
You can take the medicine with or without food. If swallowing is difficult, you can drink with 1 glass of water.
Swallow the pill capsule whole. Do not break, chew or empty the capsule.
If you miss a dose, take this dose as soon as you remember. If it is not 6 hours until your next dose, skip the missed dose completely. Do not take two doses of Pradaxa at the same time.
Attention:
Open only 1 bottle at a time, and use up the opened medicine bottle before opening a new bottle. After opening a bottle of medicine, use within 4 months.
Close the medicine bottle tightly immediately after taking the medicine.
Your doctor will decide how long you should take Pradaxa for. Do not arbitrarily stop taking the drug.
Call your doctor or health professional right away if you fall or injure yourself, especially if you hit your head. Your doctor or health care professional may need to see you.
Note when using drugs
You should not take Pradaxa if you are allergic to dabigatran or if you have:
Artificial heart valves;
Bleeding from surgery, trauma, or other causes.
The active ingredient Dabigatran in the medicine can cause a very serious blood clot around your spinal cord. This type of blood clot can cause long-term paralysis and can occur more if:
Have a genetic defect of the spine;
There is a spinal catheter in place;
Have a history of repeated spinal or spinal taps;
Pradaxa can make it easier for you to bleed, especially:
Have a stomach ulcer or bleeding in the stomach or intestines;
Have kidney disease;
Patient over 75 years old.
To make sure the medicine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
Have kidney disease;
Bleeding disorders are inherited or caused by disease;
Stomach ulcers;
You used rifampin.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant. Taking Pradaxa during pregnancy can cause bleeding in the mother or the newborn baby. However, the risk of blood clots is higher during pregnancy.
You should not breast-feed while using the medicine.
What to do in case of overdose?
Call 911 or go to the nearest local Medical Station right away.
Of course, you need to keep a record and bring a list of all medications you have taken, including prescription and over-the-counter.
What to do if I miss a dose?
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as possible.
But if it is almost like the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the time as planned.
Do not take double the prescribed dose.
Side effects of the drug Pradaxa
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; pain or tightness in the chest, wheezing, difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
See your doctor right away if you have symptoms of a spinal blood clot:
Back pain, numbness, or muscle weakness in your lower body, you may lose control of your bladder or bowels.
Any bleeding will not stop;
Headache, dizziness or feeling like you might pass out;
Easy bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina or rectum), purple or red spots under your skin;
Blood in your urine or stools, black or tarry stools; pink or brown urine;
Joint pain or swelling;
Severe menstrual bleeding.
Common Pradaxa side effects may include:
Stomach pain or discomfort;
Undigested;
Nausea, diarrhea.

Pregnant women:
You should use birth control while undergoing drug treatment, if you are already pregnant need advice from your doctor.
Taking Pradaxa during pregnancy can cause bleeding in the mother or the newborn baby
Breastfeeding: To prevent the toxicity that the drug causes, it is best to stop breastfeeding.
Other drug interactions with Pradaxa
Before you take any medication, tell your doctor if you are taking:
rifampin (Rifater, Rifamate, Rimactane, Rifadin),
amiodarone,
clarithromycin,
dronedarone
ketoconazole.
Tell your doctor about all medicines you use and which drugs you start or stop using during drug treatment, especially other medicines used to treat or prevent prevent blood clots, such as:
abciximab, clopidogrel, dipyridamole, eptifibatide, ticlopidine, tirofiban;
alteplase, reteplase, tenecteplase, urokinase;
apixaban, argatroban, bivalirudin, desirudin, lepirudin, rivaroxaban; or
dalteparin, enoxaparin, heparin, tinzaparin.
How to store drugs
You should store the drug at room temperature, dry, avoid direct sunlight exposure.
You should not store the medicine in the refrigerator.
Keep medicine out of reach of children.
You do not throw medications in the toilet or plumbing pipes.
