Xalkori (crizotinib) is a cancer drug that is intended to interfere with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.
This is a prescription drug used to treat people with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that has spread to other parts of the body and is caused by a defect in a gene called ALK. (anaplastic lymphoma kinase) or a gene called ROS1.
The drug may also be used for purposes not listed in the medication guide.

Usual Adult Dosage for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer:
250 mg orally twice a day

What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if your next dose is less than 6 hours away. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Go to the nearest medical facility or call 115.
How to use the drug?
Use the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Before starting treatment, your doctor may perform tests to make sure crizotinib is the best treatment for lung cancer muscle type.
Xalkori is usually taken twice daily. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may sometimes change your dose to make sure you get the best results. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
You can take the drug with or without food.
Do not crush, chew, dissolve, or open a capsule. Swallow the tablet whole.
While using Xalkori, your heart rate and blood pressure will need to be checked often. You will also need frequent blood tests to check your liver function. It can cause serious heart or liver problems.
Call your doctor right away if you have: headache with severe chest pain and dizziness, fast or pounding heartbeat, upper stomach pain, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice ( jaundice or eyes).

If you are a woman, do not take Xalkori if you are pregnant. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while you are taking this medicine and for at least 45 days after your last dose.

Call your doctor at once if you have:
severe vision problems, including vision loss;
headache with chest pain and severe dizziness, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeat;
very slow heart rate;
a feeling of lightheadedness, like you might faint;
sudden chest pain or discomfort, wheezing, a dry or productive cough, feeling short of breath;
fever, swollen gums, painful mouth sores, pain when swallowing, cold or flu symptoms;
easy bruising or bleeding (nosebleeds, bleeding gums); or
liver problems - nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
Common side effects while taking Xalkori may include:
nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite;
Abnormal liver function tests;
diarrhea, constipation;
swelling in your hands or feet;
feeling tired; or
Vision problems like blurred vision, increased sensitivity of your eyes to light, or seeing flicker of light or "floaters."
What other drugs will affect Xalkori?
Other drugs may interact with crizotinib, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Ask each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.
