What is Zytiga?
Zytiga drug contains Abiraterone Acetate active ingredient 250mg; is taken with Prednisone to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and has not responded to surgical treatment.
Abiraterone active ingredient in Zytiga belongs to the group of anti-androgen (anti-testosterone) drugs. Abiraterone works by blocking the production of testosterone, thereby slowing the growth and metastasis of prostate cancer.

Indications for drug treatment
The drug Zytiga (abiraterone) works by reducing androgen production in the body. Androgens are male hormones that can promote prostate tumor growth.
The drug is used together with prednisone to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.
The drug Zytiga is used in men with prostate cancer that cannot be treated with surgery or other medications.
Contraindications to the use of drugs
Hypersensitivity to the medicinal ingredient Zytiga.
Pregnant or potentially pregnant women.
Severe liver failure.
Dosage of Zytiga 250mg
Dosage for adults
Usual adult dose for prostate cancer.
Initial dose: 1000 mg once daily. Abiraterone should be taken with oral prednisone 5 mg twice daily.
Dosage for children
This drug should not be used in children.
How to use the drug
Follow all directions and instructions from your doctor. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
The drug comes in pill form and should be taken when hungry; or 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.
Should be taken at the same time every day.
Swallow the whole tablet; do not break, chew, or crush the tablet.
Continue taking the medicine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking abiraterone or prednisone without first talking to your doctor.

Call 911 or go to the nearest local Medical Station right away.

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as possible.

Low blood potassium;

Abiraterone is not intended for women or children:
Abiraterone can harm an unborn baby or cause a miscarriage. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take Zytiga.
Abiraterone may also harm an unborn baby if the father is taking this medicine at the time of conception or during pregnancy.
Use effective birth control if your sex partner could become pregnant. Continue using birth control for at least 3 weeks after your last dose.
Use a condom if your sexual partner is pregnant.
Abiraterone should also be avoided by women who are breast-feeding.
Abiraterone is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

Things to avoid while taking the drug
Avoid eating for at least 2 hours before taking the medicine and for at least 1 hour after your dose. Foods can increase the amount of abiraterone your body absorbs.
Avoid taking an herbal supplement that contains alcohol wort at the same time you are taking the medication.
This drug can pass into body fluids (urine, feces, vomit). Caregivers should wear rubber gloves when cleaning up a patient's body fluids, handling contaminated waste or washing or changing diapers. Wash hands before and after removing gloves. Wash soiled clothing and towels separately from other laundry.
Side effects of Zytiga 250mg
Stop using Zytiga and call your doctor at once if you have:
Swelling in ankles or feet, pain in legs;
Burning pain when urinating;
Dangerous high blood pressure - severe headache, blurred vision, nosebleeds, anxiety, severe chest pain, difficulty breathing;
High blood sugar - thirst, excessive urination, hunger, dry mouth, drowsiness, dry skin, blurred vision, weight loss;
Liver problems - nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
Low potassium - irregular heartbeat, extreme thirst, excessive urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or a feeling of weakness;
Signs of low adrenal hormones - fatigue or muscle weakness, feeling lightheaded, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and weight loss.
Common medication side effects may include:
Vomiting, diarrhea, pain, or difficulty urinating;
Feeling weak, feeling very hot;
Joint pain or swelling;
Bruising;
Cough, feeling short of breath.
Affect health status
Your medical condition may affect your Zytiga use. Tell your doctor if you have any other health problems, especially:
History of adrenal or pituitary problems;
Have a recent heart attack;
Heart failure;
History of heart or blood vessel disease;
Heart rhythm problems (eg ventricular arrhythmias);
Hypertension;
Reduce blood potassium (low potassium levels in the blood) - Use with caution. Medication can make this condition worse.
Liver disease - Use with caution. The effects of drugs may be increased by the slower elimination of the drug from the body.
Zytiga drug interactions
Other drugs may interact with abiraterone, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Ask each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.

How to store drugs
You should store the drug at room temperature, dry, avoid direct sunlight exposure.
